Print and Sustainability

Well, what is sustainability? Sustainability is "the capacity to support, maintain, or endure." (Courtesy of Wikipedia). So in the area of printing, you could say the focus would be to support, maintain, or endure different types of paper and paper products.

If you were to ask the average person about printing and the environment they would probably say that printing uses tons of paper which cuts down on the number of trees and hurts our environment. This is just one example of one of the many myths and falsehoods out there. Let's take a look at some facts about printing and the environment. You may be surprised.

Did you know?

Paper is actually a very sustainable product. So, you're probably wondering, how so? Paper is made from trees which is a renewable, natural resource. It is recyclable as well. The U.S. paper industry has made a huge emphasis on being "green". They follow a list of responsible forestry practices as well as certification and they use renewable, carbon-neutral biofuels to produce it. With the advances in paper-making technology and the awareness of the U.S. paper industry, paper is one of the most sustainable products on the planet. The World Wildlife Fund states when paper is produced responsibly, it has many advantages over other non-renewable, alternative material.

Making paper actually does not destroy forests. With today's sustainable forest management programs paper actually helps forests grow. More than 4 million trees are planted each day which is greater than what is harvested to make paper. So you could say that without paper, there would be fewer trees. And most of the forests that are being taken down for good are caused by development.

Of all the products being recycled, Paper is right near the top of the list. Only one-third of paper is made from trees being cut down. Another third is made from recycled paper and the last third is made from sawmill waste. I'd say that's pretty good as far as recycling goes. So, basically two-thirds of paper is recycled in some way.

Paper's carbon footprint isn't as high as the rumor has it. So, what is a carbon footprint, anyway? Well, it is the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases, released into the atmosphere caused by a person, product, company, organization, event, etc. If we look at the entire life cycle of paper, we see that paper is broken down into three basic elements: carbon sequestration, greenhouse gases and avoided emissions. Since paper is made from a renewable resource that stores carbon, which is very important to remember, each of these elements are influenced by important characteristics that make paper's carbon footprint smaller than is expected.

E-media and electronic communication isn't necessarily more environmentally friendly than paper. How many of us hear, "go green and save trees" or "go paperless" in today's world? With major publications going from print to electronic versions it seems less and less publications are being printed. But how much of that is due to marketing strategies and to save cost in today's economy? Instead of arguing which is better between the world of paper and electronic media we should be concentrating and working together on combining the two to make the most economical and efficient strides to make both avenues sustainable.

So you may ask yourself what you can do to help. I mean, you're only one person, right? With the power of social media and the internet these facts can spread like wildfire and help educate the public. It just needs to start with one person to spread the word to others and so on and so forth down the line. Go out and research this subject too. You'll probably find a lot of surprising facts about paper and paper production. The next time you think about not printing out an email, just know that you're actually helping plant more trees by printing out that email.

Digital Video Production Allows Companies to Make the Association Video

When companies specialize in corporate video production, they can have the opportunity to make many different kinds of videos. This can be fun and exciting as well as very rewarding for the artist. Digital video production is a growing industry because everyone wants their videos to be seen in many different formats.

Some videos are made for companies because they want to get their companies introduced to their customers. They may offer many different kinds of services or products. Once a customer decides exactly what they are interested in, they can talk to a salesman or a customer service representative to get them more information so that they can make a well-informed decision.

Another reason that businesses will need these videos made is because their employees need to be trained properly. They can watch videos so that they can see exactly what is expected of them. This can be very beneficial because all of the employees will be watching the same videos and will be trained the same way.

Many training videos need to be updated when a company changes their equipment or their policies. There can be many different jobs inside of a factory. Someone who does that job every day may forget to give their trainee very useful information.

They may forget to tell them about a safety precaution. Every employee has a different style also. Safety should be the number one priority of any job.

A salesman may choose to have a commercial made for their products or services. This will state many different benefits and reasons why someone should choose their company. There are many different styles used for this type of video.

Whether it is a training video or something else, there are a lot of possibilities. They may shoot the whole video at one time or break it up into several different things. They may choose to cut parts out when it gets edited.

The whole crew needs to help with making a corporate video production. When everyone cooperates, it makes it much easier for everyone. These can be a lot of fun to make and watch.

An association video will be the key to the success of many companies. They can use these videos to show how the business was created and what practices were in place in previous years also. Using digital video production allows them to watch their videos almost anywhere immediately after it is finished.

About Us: Using a video crew to create training videos, introduction videos or any other type of video can be very helpful. When you need to find someone that can produce what you need, you might consider looking at Puritano Media Group for all of your video needs. You can visit them online at http://www.puritano.com/.

Top 10 Comics Books of 2012

The year 2012 is behind us and we are confident to say that it was a great year for all the comics' lovers. We've seen all type of Comics genres, action, sci-fi, horror, romance, drama, you name it. If we can sketch any prognosis based on 2012, the 2013 should be bombastic; we expect more comics books, more comics artist, more readers, all in all, more fun for all!

Whilst mainstream publishers like DC and Marvel continues kicking, some of the independent publishers proved playing a significant role in years to come, namely Image Comics and Dark Horse. One may argue, but we would say that an absolute winner is Image Comics with 5 (!) titles on our chart.

It wasn't easy, we have been discussing for a while, hm, especially about the Number 1, however, let's take a look at The 10 Best Comics of 2012:

10. Conan the Barbarian (Dark Horse Comics)

Writer: Brian Wood
Artists: Becky Cloonan, Declan Shalvey, Vasilis Lolos, James Harren

And just as it seemed that mythic fantasy was slowly slipping away from grace over the last couple of years, along comes this new take on an all-so-familiar story of Conan. Leaner and meaner, this version brings plausibility, grit and human face to the imaginary world of Cimmeria.

9. Manhattan Projects (Image Comics)

Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artist: Nick Pitarr & Cris Peter

Here's a true weirdo for you. A surreal fest kicking off from a (not-so) preposterous notion of Project Manhattan and all its chief protagonists being just a cover-up for more radical experiments in the making. A way crazy take on the birth of the atomic age!

8. Winter Soldier (Marvel Entertainment)

Writer: Ed Brubaker
Artists: Butch Guice, Brian Albert Thies, Bettie Breitweiser and Jordan Diane Bellaire

We'll give you a hint: if you're an action comic strip aficionado with a sport watch on your wrist, you'll absolutely LOVE the art and feel of this one. That or we know nothing about comic strip.

7. Saga (Image Comics)

Writer: Brian K. Vaughan
Artist: Fiona Staples

Take everything you know about space opera, fantasy and romance, mix it up real good, and you'll get an approximate bearing on this gem. A surefire movie material, read it now so you can later whine how much better the book was.

6. Chew (Image Comics)

Writer: John Layman
Artist: Rob Guillory

Brattling with majestic art, often tasteless humor and subtle messages, the adventures of agent Tony Chu will make you read the book many times over just so you can suck it all in. One of the funniest things out there.

5. Punk Rock Jesus (DC Entertainment/Vertigo)

Writer/artist: Sean Murphy

So - you take a DNA sample from the Shroud of Turin, clone JC himself and name him Chris, then make a reality show about him growing up... hmm, that sounds like you might hit a bump or two along that way... Bitter, raw and packing a powerful punch, PRJ is about to stomp all that you cherish and believe into ground. Black and white, no-frills art helps set the mood. Brilliant.

4. All Star Western (DC Entertainment)

Writers: Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti
Artists: Moritat, Phil Winslade and Staz Johnson

An underrated treat, this western genre tale stars Jonah Hex and Amadeus Arkhman in a juxtaposed relationship, tackling dirty politicians and various villains. A top-notch art and multi layered storyline is a trademark of the book. It's hard to imagine a better comeback for an almost forgotten genre that once saved the whole industry from oblivion.

3. The Walking Dead (Image Comics)

Writer: Robert Kirkman
Artist: Charlie Adlard and Cliff Rathburn

Nine years in the making and just getting bigger and better. This is indie at its finest hour. Don't miss out on it, you'll enjoy those hundred issues for a long time.

2. Fatale (Image Comics)

Writer: Ed Brubaker
Artist: Sean Philips

A bit of noir, a whiff of horror, a touch of fantasy and a little thriller, and there you have it - a strange story that spans across decades with some characters mysteriously remaining the same... Very complex and rewarding read.

1. Batman (DC Entertainment)

Writer: Scott Snyder
Artist: Greg Capullo

Critics and fans have said it all elsewhere, so there's no point denying - this is by far the best comic book of 2012. Incredibly deep and layered storytelling by Snyder who somehow manages to outdo himself each time over. Capullo's dystopian world is addictively mesmerizing. And wait 'till you see Joker - he's so unnerving he'll make you flinch each time you see him.

Creative (and Inexpensive) Tips for Marketing Your Talent As a Graphic Designer

You don't have to be a starving artist - follow these helpful business tips.

Many people can write their own content, even build a website - but they do not have the talent to create innovative, appealing images, motion graphics and other elements of design. So, how can you put your talents front and center of those who need them?

Here are a few cost-effective and creative tips that will help you promote your talent without leaving you a so-called "starving artist."

Brand yourself. Yes, that's right! Most people equate "brands" with large corporations, but the fact is every business regardless of how small or large should have a brand. Brainstorm a bit to determine what your business stands for, what your unique selling proposition is, and how you desire for potential clients to perceive you.

Network. Today, networking is easier than ever before, particularly online. Join industry-related forums; create a Facebook business page, join Twitter and/or LinkedIn, Google+ and other social media sites where you can engage with your target audience. If you'll get out there and get involved, you'll see that there are nearly limitless opportunities to put your talent in front of those who need it. A good mix of online marketing and face to face meetings are essential. Join your local Chamber of Commerce for starters.

Create a press release for distribution. Press releases help put you in the "news," and search engines (as well as people) love news. Optimize your press release for your keywords and geographical location if applicable. Submit your press release to highly trafficked PR sites like PRWeb and Business Wire.

Write articles for your own website, and submit to directories. Nothing establishes you as an authority in your industry like content - and lots of it! Write articles and put them on your own website (for SEO benefits), then submit them to article directories for further syndication.

You may have thought marketing your talents as a graphic design artist would cost a fortune (or at least more than you can afford). The fact is, you can promote yourself effectively as a graphic design professional for very little cost! Sure, there will be some areas where you will want to spend a little money (your portfolio being one of the most important aspects), business cards, but even on a shoestring budget you can enjoy substantial exposure. Be creative and think outside the box for promotional items.

Web Design Is Not Always Fine

The most important element of web design is a good visual design. Any web design that is not visually appealing is a big turn off. It is important for a website to look clean and simple. An overcrowded design is not recommended. The first impression is the key to many visitors and re visitors. A good and attractive design ensures that the visitor will spend some time looking around.

The next element that makes a good web design is a simple and thoughtful user interface. The first thing that we need to determine is that the user is able to find his information of interest with ease. A careful navigation and consistent layout looks cool and neat. It is easy for the viewer to find content areas.

Primary Navigation looks good above the fold. The computer screens today have capabilities to hold greater number of pixels. The top 500 -600 pixels are said to be above the fold or something which the user is able to see as a first glimpse. The main links of the website are usually acceptable when they are above the fold so that the information seeker finds his required link at the first sight.

It is thoughtful to repeat the navigation in the footer if the content in the webpage is large enough to make it scrollable. With these links like terms of service can also be used. A meaningful content and precisely written is usually acceptable. No one in interested in reading long paragraphs about the stuff that indicates you are beating around the bush. People love descriptions with photographs. Contents and links in the middle of pages arises curiosity in the readers.

It is not a good practice to avoid contact information in a website. If a prospective client is looking for ways to contact you, it is a big turnoff if he is unable to find a dedicated link that allows him to see modes of communicating with you or similar information. Typically a phone number, an email address and a contact form is enough information and means for a person to get in touch with you.

There can be nothing better than a search field. Google offers custom search to websites when applied. For a person who uses word press, this information comes in, search is already provided along with WordPress.

A sitemap is another important element one must have in his website. If it is a complex website, then it becomes all the more important. A good sitemap lists out all the pages and how they are linked to each other. The sitemap is for the reader to view how to navigate through pages and which page leads to another.

Design should always be separated from content. A good web design must have cross browser compatibility. CSS and other scripts allow this to happen easily. Web optimized images are important because no one likes to wait for an image any longer.

Statistics and analytics are good to have tools for you to see how many people visited your website. These elements are important for a good web design.

Information Design With the Five Hat Racks Principle

As an user experience designer and former graphic designer, I know that the way that information is displayed is most of the times as important as the content of the information itself. That being said, there are some scientific, quantifiable factors behind Information Design, and there are also some non-quantifiable variables, that we may agree on calling Art.

The Five Hats Rack principle is on the scientific side of Information Design, since is oriented to organizing and displaying information on a limited and quantifiable way: any type of information, regardless of the specific application, can be organized by Category, Time, Location, Alphabet and Continuum.

Category refers to grouping by similarity or relatedness. For instance, if we're organizing animals we might want to divide them by species; on an online retail website, an organization by category (clothing, electronics, appliances, etc.) would be probably the most useful for customers. Now, let's say that we're soccer fans and want to design a chart with all the countries that have won the World Cup. The two obvious categories for this would be countries that have won the cup and those who have not; we might want to add a category with the runners-up, as well.

Time is simply the organization by chronological sequence: a T.V. guide schedule, a timeline of events, a recipe. In the case of our Soccer World Cup chart, we might want to display a timeline with all the tournaments and their host countries.

Location refers to organization by geographical or spatial reference. Any map is an example of this type (subway maps as well, for even when they don't utilize an exact map, there is a spatial reference between stations). If we wanted to include this type in our Soccer World Cup chart, we might include a world map with all the federations that participate on the FIFA tournament.

Alphabet means organization by alphabetic sequence. Dictionaries, directories and indexes are organized this way. This type of organization is used alone only when no other way of organizing is appropriate. In the example of the Soccer World Cup chart, we might want to list all the countries who have participated on the tournament, indicating how many times they have been present.

Finally, Continuum (sometimes called Hierarchy) refers to organization by magnitude: low price to high price, most popular songs, etc. This is useful when there exist a common measure to compare different items of a group. We could include in our example chart a list with the countries who have won the cup more times, or a list with the all-time top scorers.

These strategies for organizing and displaying information are rarely used alone. Normally two or more are used, and sometimes all of them are necessary for explaining some complex information. You can see a chart with the example of the Soccer World Cup I used on my website, where I incorporated all the five types of organization into one diagram.

Palm Tree Symbolism in Custom Oil Painting Composition - Part 3

Healthy Trees Tell Us To Grow

When you see a tree in an oil painting, that tree "speaks" to your unconscious unknowing mind. I am here to tell you what it is saying. The sight of that tree reveals sundry tokens.

One of the tokens shown by trees has to do with the concept of "growth," or more specifically, the idea of psychological or spiritual growth.

At first, I had not read many resources that consider "growth" as an artistic theme. The word "growth," as used in the above manner, had always left me with the feeling that I did not quite understand the meaning of the writer. Finally, after tens of years, I bothered to look up the meaning of the word as used in a psychological or spiritual manner.

Definition of Psychological And Spiritual Growth

The definition that I found equates growth with understanding, and lack of growth equates with confusion.

So, by that, a healthy tree may signify the abilities that accompany a growth in understanding. To see a healthy tree invites the looker to grow in understanding. To grow in understanding increases our abilities and our ability.

What Abilities Do We Get When Our Understanding Grows?

Here let us pause and think about "what abilities come with a growth in understanding?"

If we understand more, we become more able, yes? Able to do what? I am not going to list all the abilities that come to us when we improve our understanding. Instead, I would like you to take a moment and think of them before you read the rest of this article.

Should We Add Trees To Our Composition?

"Understanding" would include mental, spiritual, and supernatural understanding, any or all. Now we can see that, if a custom oil painting is among our gift ideas, then we would do well to find or to design a painting that shows a healthy tree.

If it is a portrait, even from a photo, you can tell the painting artist to add a healthy tree if there is not one already in the composition.

What About Decrepit Or Leafless Trees?

A dead tree would tell the viewer to be totally confused. A withered tree may tell him to be rigid in his thinking, without heartfelt understanding. We would not want such trees to appear in oil painting made for those about whom we care.

Should the Tree Be Climbable?

A tree that is being climbed tells the viewed to achieve his/her career goals and to reach to a high place among his/her peers.

The easier the tree seems to be able to climb, the faster the observer is told to achieve his/her goals and to attain that high place. Therefore, a climber would be a good symbol to add in original paintings that could be used as anniversary gifts or for other occasions.

What About Gifts of Fine Art Paintings That Show Fallen Trees?

A tree that is cut down, or is being cut down, tells the looker to waste his time and his money. Moreover, it tells him to be sexually afraid or guilty.

A tree that falls tells the looker to be disjointed from his/her surroundings and to be out of balance. It tells him/her to take a misleading path. In otherwords, we truly would not care much for the recipient of our gifts if we were to give art drawings or paintings that display a tree that is falling or has fallen.

Can You Add Any New Understanding To This?

We ought to look at our own intuition to see what lore we might add in our understanding of what a tree means to a viewer who observes a piece of art work.

What You Will Find In The Next Section

In the next section of this series of observations, we will learn what the image of a palm tree says to a viewer in terms of how to feel when he/she sees one in a custom oil painting gift.

Renoir Paintings Example Of Impressionist Period

Pierre Auguste Renoir was a famous painter during the late 19th. Many people credit him with bringing forward the Impressionist movement that affected much of European culture of the time. People who have purchased or own Renoir paintings have quite an investment on their hands, as these paintings continue to sell at auctions for far into the millions.

In the late 1800s, there was a period called the Impressionist movement. While most people associate this with painting, it in fact affected the fields of literature and music. Impressionism began in Paris, and was started by a group of artisans who practiced their chosen crafts there. The key element of this style of was the first impression a person received upon seeing something, and the first impression that a painter or artist expressed about what they saw.

The Impressionist paintings period influenced music of the time by encouraging the use of lush harmonies. The timbre of the music that was affected at the time was considered unusual. The intent was to rustle the moods of those listening so they would think of their first impression of things rather than wait to be given the details of a chord via the song.

Literature was also affected by Impressionist painting styles. Instead of offering up a great deal of details, written works of this era put a focus on the very first things a person would see about an object or learn about a topic, rather than giving the details. This was a new concept compared to classic literature which veritably painted the pictures for the readers.

Impressionist art has been defined by the way the painters did their craft. Unmixed primary colours were used instead of varying shades of colours that tried to invoke the realistic look of a subject. Artists tried to capture what they themselves felt in the painting, instead of trying to imitate what was really before them.

Pierre Auguste Renoir and Claude Monet were two major founding artists of the Impressionist period. Both were students under Charles Gleyre in Paris. Both were also very prolific, painting thousands of pictures between the two of them. While Monet focused on doing landscapes, Renoir enjoyed capturing moments of people's lives. Both had a strong focus on the feminine form and Renoir particularly spent a lot of time doing nudes of realistic women of the period.

The artwork that these two came up with is very popular today. While painting side by side, the two artists discovered a love for en plein air or open air painting methods. They studied the shadows of the objects and landscapes around them and realized shading is not brown or black. Shades are actually reflections of the colours of objects around the shadow. The two had inadvertently discovered diffuse reflection.

Although it has not yet been one hundred years since Renoir passed in 1919, his work remains highly prized. He was a very prolific artist and most of his pieces can be found in well known museums. In 1990 a piece of artwork by Renoir sold for $78.1 million dollars at auction. This is evidence of how influential his style has been on modern art tastes.

Macbook Fashion - Display Your Personality With Decals

I remember in the not too distant past, when a computer was just a beige box (slightly yellowed actually) sat atop my desk at work. Nothing special, but it did the job that it was supposed to do. It was bland and business like, which is exactly what was required of it... but then Apple came along, and over the years, they changed the way we look at our computers, and with the last few iterations of the Apple Macbook it seems now that having one not only serves a practical use for many designers and creatives, but also serves as a statement of cool.

Installation of Wall Decals and Correct Decal or Sticker Sizing Methods

Question: How easy is it to install Wall Decals?

Answer: Well, that will depend on the size of the decal and the composition of the wall as well as the type of paint and texture applied to the wall.

If a wall is painted with a standard flat finish enamel over a textured finish, it is very porous, which will make installation pretty simple, even if your graphics are quite large. Of course, if you do have large graphics, you will need at least two sets of hands to help you install the wall graphic so it doesn't fold over on itself.

I mention that because I've had it happen. It's a terrible feeling to have a $300 custom printed graphic glue itself to itself. But, if you are cautious and get some help, there's a good chance this won't happen to you.

If you have a smooth wall, painted with gloss latex paint, or gloss oil-based paint, there is an increased chance that you may have air bubbles trapped beneath the vinyl as the paint is less porous and it is more difficult to push the air through the paint than a flat, textured latex painted wall.

Of course, if your decals are small, then it's pretty easy to install wherever you put them, even on glass. The best way to install a sticker on glass or gloss paint is to position it, tape it in place on one edge, then flip it back so that the tape is holding the edge of the printed sticker and the release liner is facing you. Remove the release liner, then slowly smooth the decal onto the glossy painted surface or window with a credit card or driver's license to prevent air bubbles from being trapped under the printed decal.

Question: How do I select the right size/dimensions for my decals?

Answer: How would you decide what car to buy or what size house to build?

You have to ask yourself similar questions. If you're buying a car for utilitarian reasons - such as "we just had our 14th child and we need more than a small automobile now" - you will likely decide on your new bus, er, vehicle based on legal requirements that each child should be in a car seat or buckled up with a seat belt, etc.

So, if you're wanting to have a school spirit decal for your football booster club, you need to decide where to encourage other boosters to use the decals. Are they going to be used on car windows? Store windows? On refrigerators?

If they're going on car windows, for instance, you'd probably not want to get much larger than about 35 square inches or so... 6" x 6" or 3" x 12". Of course, if you're using a clear polyester decal stock, and there's some visibility through the sticker, you could go a bit larger if desired.

If all the parents in the club own businesses with store fronts, you might want to stay the same size, or go even larger. If you're going to put the decal on your fridge, you might prefer a small refrigerator magnet decal over something that sticks semi-permanently.

One option that we're seeing increase in popularity over the years is static cling window stickers. The reason is that they adhere without glue. The negative is that they can't be applied to the outside of your car window. You'd lose it at 25 mph off your car. However, there are now options for removable adhesives that we've found to work quite well, so you just have to let us know what you're looking for.

Among a Community of Creatives

"The Creators," as in an Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand sense, were those who thrived because of their individualistic and progressive mind capabilities; creators of various trades, crafts and techniques. In this light, specific titles or labels are lost, and hold no value, where as there is a sole interest based on outcomes and results. Through visual professionals, and their keen understanding of ascetics and composition, there is a unity of function and beauty. Keeping in mind value for value, while exploring a community of creatives, art in its most broad term can take many forms. Being pronounced an artist should no longer be reserved for the fine arts, but extended to embrace the architect, design, manufacture, and technical fields. Throughout this article, focus is weighed on realistic acceptance of individual impact, but with hopes of a realization to desire to work towards a unified community of artistic minds.

Referencing one last historical and social concept before submerging into personal opinion, the Bauhaus fits as a model example of a community built of and for creatives. Thanks to semesters of design history and lectures regarding the German school, it's relatively painless to connect some of the theories, or fundamental principles, of the Bauhaus to the topic at hand. Being recognized as one of the most popular design and art schools, the Bauhaus established an environment that encouraged interrelationships among technology and fine arts. The school created a balance for artistic industrial production and taught manufacturing as an art, creating being the most important craft. Thinking of a real-life, present-day application, consider a modernized look at industrial design. There are jobs within the larger job that allow the completed piece to exist: a client in need, an available designer, a reasonable craftsman with skill and manpower, and finally a packaging plan. The result would be unimaginable without the artists that literally and physically created.

As with any production, manufacturing or craft development, using the correct equipment usually ensures the task to be successfully carried out. Likewise, utilizing the most appropriate creator can significantly affect a project's completion. With the artistic restrictions hazing, and attitudes of industries expanding to new levels, an individual's interest in gaining greater knowledge outside of a specific career path has become more common and craved. Mainly, the focus is to realize that career specialization is absolutely necessary. However, within the creative's community, title, rank and position should not be glorified. The work that is designed and produced should be seen as a common denominator that allows all innovative contributors involved to be proud to call themselves artists. In the most basic context, if there were a need for a blueprint sketch of a building, of course hiring an architect would be the best decision. Underlying point being that the architect is, and should still be considered an artist. Occupation: Artists Specialization: Architect

Under the Artist's umbrella composed of professionals from various careers, there can be endless communication, collaboration, or competition. Looking at an example that highlights a range of specializations, the artist's grid can be formatted to serve as a pliable tool. The grid can be found in a range of outlets; from Piet Mondrian's "grid-like" iconic paintings, to an architect's layouts and graphs, to the use of free-hand up-scaling technique, to finally a typographer's grid used to balance counters, ascenders and kerning. Just as the grid is a flexible tool for diverse artists, these artists are connected in their ability to create original work.

With one last idea, embrace the celebration of artists, and the celebration of their work expressed through their unique mediums. Strip each artist of their specialization, and only artists remain.

Diversity With Style

Anila Zulfiqar has been a painter with an urge to develop and evolve as a painter of unique style. In this course, she has dipped her brush in colours that speak of her vision and point of view, from where she observes life around. Anila is a painter who likes to rely more on her visual memory and deep observation, instead of imitating what she sees. She started to paint canvases with dark and mysterious themes where surface textures were pivotal part of her paintings. However, with the passage of time, she started to play more with colours, and now she creates textures with her brush and paints. Her palette has embraced more vivid and flamboyant tinges, with a fresh feel of the palette.

Anila spent her childhood in the vast green fields of the Punjab plains where she might have observed the nature with all her warmth and sooth. Today, her canvases display the linkage of the artist with nature and environment around her whether it is a landscape or a cityscape.

Small frames, intricate weaving of the tiny brushstrokes and depth in perspective are the elements that are quite remarkable in her work. Anila is a kind of painter who does not work on the spot but even then; she is always keen on observing and then painting the atmosphere, its effects and influences that it casts on her. She tries to capture the changing effect of the light and fall within the impressionistic approach. However, her small-scale and intricate rendering shows her style closed to minimalism.

Recently, Anila has put on display her first solo show under the title of... In this show; one can see an array of small size frames that Anila has painted in a convoluted manner where she seems to be playing with the stylized perspective and visual compositions overwhelmed and based on the recollection, she keeps on observing in her everyday life. Specifically, she has made a colourful statement of the city she lives in, and about the streets, she wanders around. One can see the traditional architecture of Lahore that is still breathing almost its last in Anarkali, Gwalmandi and in the walled city. Since Anila is more prone to Anarkali, her tiny frames give an impression of all these places minimized in an assortment closed to the Japanese Ikebana.

In a couple of frames, Anila appears as she is experimenting with her painting technique especially in terms of visual depth created through the melted distortion of the objects, in a way that it feels like Salvador Dali is loitering behind the small canvas to cause some surrealistic aspirations in them.

Although, this assortment of frames carries diverse visual inspirations from modern-western art movements that are; impressionism, minimalism and Surrealism, even then the regional techniques regarding landscape painting are also prevalent. The colourful clothes, hanging alongside a railway track, or the round shapes of local huts with lush green vegetation around, gives these canvases a feeling of freshness as well as a touch of the native atmosphere. Therefore, Anila's work becomes a crucible of diverse styles and inspirations, but she controls it with such mastery that she looks successful in making all the diversities unified completely under the one visual idiom, in very small frames.

Design quality and compositional balance are other two very strong elements in these frames. Anila has balanced her paintings by composing the main objects along the horizon line in landscapes and towards the vanishing point in her cityscapes. Moreover, she has made the preeminent area more important by loosening her palette around with drips, drags and casual dabs of fresh and wet-looking colour.

It seems an unintentional journey of the artist to explore her own colours around her. Through this journey, Anila has discovered an atmosphere in the alleys of the metropolitan, which she can relate to her nostalgic possessions within her memories. That could be the one reason that all of Anila's paintings are quite suggestive in terms of colours, composition, and arrangement of objects while at the same time, these frames express a subjectivity regarding artist's own vision and recollection of her surroundings.

Anila, with her soft colours and strong compositions, tries to capture the scenic beauty that has etched in her memory. She amalgamates her perception with her vision before painting it on the canvas in the shaped of dabs and in tabs. In this way, one can find Anila closed to the technique of Zubeda Javed, who is the pioneer of this style in landscape. Although Anila is inspired by Zubeda's work, but she has made her paintings conversational by applying her individual colours and the distortion that shows her own emotional thrust.

Moreover, she has tried to document the visual heritage of Lahore. One cannot identify the actual place or spot in her paintings, but one can always relate that painting with a collective visual heritage that may have developed in our subconscious over the years.

Anila belongs to the new generation of Pakistani artist who has the potential of accepting modern challenges regarding present-day techniques and concepts without leaving behind the conventional painting.

Paper For Large Format Printing

If you're looking to run a large advertising campaign then you'll no doubt be thinking about the type of ad, poster, or scrapbook you will be printing. Firstly, in order to be able to carry out any form of large printing you'll need access to a large format printer.

Once you have access to a printer that's been designed especially for large printing you'll then need to decide which type of paper will be the most suitable for the job in hand.

There are many different forms of large format paper available, they include, plain paper, coated paper, glossy paper and matte paper. They are all suitable for different jobs and serve different purposes.

Plain paper is probably the most well used form of large format paper and is typically used for routine printing projects. The good thing about most forms of plain paper is that its thin and therefore very absorbent so it's able to dry relatively quickly. So, if you're perhaps looking to print something that is 'graphic heavy' this type of paper may not be the most suitable as it may warp.

If you are looking to print something that is 'graphic heavy' then you may which to opt for a coated paper as this is thicker and the material is more absorbent. Coated paper is lined with a material such as 'fine clay dust' which absorbs more of the ink, another benefit of using this type of paper is that it prevents the ink from spreading or bleeding. To make sure that coated paper stays bright white it is often bleached.

If you want your product to have a classy finish then you may want to opt for a paper with a glossy print which ensures that your poster has a 'shiny' finish. More often than not glossy paper is used to print photos as it gives them a polished look.

You could also opt for a matte paper which has a 'dull finish'. Unlike glossy paper, matte paper enables people to easily read the writing. Matte paper also dries quickly as it's able to easily absorb the ink.

Finally, if you didn't want such a 'dull finish' you could opt for a paper that has a semi-gloss/semi-matte finish. This form of paper can be used for a wide range of different purposes and is useful for mixed-media documents. More often than not it is used to print official documents.

Basic information on the wall graphics and stickers

Question: Wall stick-ons damage walls?

Response: Guns kill people? The only way wall stick-ons (more commonly known as wall decals or Wall Stickers) will damage your wall if you do not follow the instructions to install or remove them.

Basically, to avoid damage of wall decals wall, simply make sure that your walls are freshly painted or degreased before applying your wall decals, then, when remove you them, if necessary, use a hair dryer or a heat gun to help the glue to release itself from the wall.

For those of you who are wondering if you can reuse a wall decal, the answer is almost always no at least for adhesive wall decals. There are a few static offset printed stickers stick available for commercial uses that are not adhesive, so those are reusable, but they are not generally available on the market.

Question: The Wall Stickers are safe?

Response: I can check that nobody does not know I have never been attacked by a wall decal, at least not in the last decade.

If you mean are they safe for your walls, I have repeatedly addressed in our FAQ series, but since I like to expose my views on this, I'm going to approach it for the umpteenth time.

No building is air-tight. It is estimated that the more modern building exchange all the air in the building, every seven minutes. The buildings and the old houses are still faster.

This means that everything that is in the air, such as moisture, oil or other pollutants from vehicle exhaust or barbecue from your neighbor, will be filtered through your home or Office.

And he will stick to your walls, ceiling, furniture, carpets and dog. Among other things. So if you want stickers to stick properly and easily release when you remove, make sure that you apply any wall chart to clean walls, preferable freshly painted about 30 days before.

Question: What should I know about the wall stickers?

Response: What do you know about wall decals or stickers? First of all, they stick to the walls. They are good for advertising in commercial places such as malls or retail stores or temporary bridges.

They apply relatively easily, at least there are two people applying them. You can create large murals with wall decals, by the panels vertically (in general - it is easier than the horizontal panels).

They remove fairly easily as well, and with a heat gun or hair dryer, they should release quite properly for your walls.

Question: Why can not apply wall stickers in the freshly painted rooms?

Response: Painting takes time to dry. It dries to touch, or dry surface, but in reality, it is not dry below the surface, and if you apply stickers or stickers on a freshly painted wall, the adhesive can stick through the paint's dry surface in fresh paint, which, when it is dry after 30 days, can create a deep bond with the adhesive.

At this stage, it is not a big deal, until you want to remove the labels. Now you have a problem, because the glue goes below the surface of the paint, and when you try to remove the wall decal, it will take the paint on the wall with adhesive.

The other potential problem by applying stickers to freshly painted walls, is that if they are still out the humidity, it may simply write off the sticker on the wall because it is simply too wet for the adhesive handle for. If it is a business, you must ensure that you have the time to accomplish what you need before its wall elements of advertising to a wall, or the inauguration is perhaps not that great.

Quality Embroidery Digitizing At Low Time

In order to survive in these highly competitive areas of embroidery digitizing, then you need to be able to produce quality designs and that too at a low time. In addition to that, if you are in the business of custom embroidery design, you need to be competitive in terms of price as well.

The first step towards creating quality designs with embroidery digitizing, is to have the right equipment. Thus, you need to have a computer and embroidery digitizer software that has enough options to help you create attractive designs. The next step is to enhance your skill sets.

Process of Embroidery Digitizing

In the process of digitizing first study and analyze how the embroidery is and will be if any alterations have to be made within it. Then it is modified in a graphic program with its logo and texts. Thereafter it is opened in an embroidery program for further editing. There has to be a stitch file created and the digitizer has to decide the pattern of its appearance. The path will determine the position of the design and when it will be completed. If a wrong pattern of path is chosen then there will be gaps or errors in the text of the design. The path pattern of digitizing will determine the entire design and the complete time for it to be completed. Then the digitizer allocates the stitch type to each group based on which stitch would make the best artwork. The digitizer adds the underlay stitches which help in creating a perfect logo.

Improvement in Embroidery

An important part of custom embroidery is digitizing. It is the process of converting artwork into a stitch file that can be read by an embroidery machine. Quality Embroidery digitizing is a positive attraction to the embroidery industry in many ways. Firstly it has completely transformed the concept of embroidery. In old times, people used to work harder in order to embroider a single and simple piece of artwork. Due to some reason if any error occurred they had to waste the entire piece of their handwork and start working on a new piece. Nowadays with the change of time, there are various changes made in numerous fields of embroidery at a greater extent and some fields of work have been fully transformed.

Embroidery Digitizing Services are capable of turning out stunning; realistic designs that are time consuming by hand. The images that will be sent to them can be manipulated into simplified, line arts or vector images that will fulfill client needs for embroidery. The images that are finished can be sent into a file format that could readily fit a company's embroidery machinery for an easy stitching to the fabric.

What Is Vector Art?

If you are into digital art, you have probably come across the term vector art. But, what is so special about vector graphics? What can they do different from other types of graphics? Knowing what it can do for you can change how you use and think of graphics from this point forward.

Vector art is a type of digital graphic which uses mathematical points to create an image. It can be used in thousands of different applications. Business logos, billboards, invitations, announcements, greeting cards, menus, newsletters, web applications, and print projects of all kinds for commercial and personal use.

What is so special about vector art?

The best part about vector art is its scalability. Because it uses mathematical points to pinpoint its size and location, you are able to resize the graphic without losing any of its quality. Scalability makes these graphics a higher quality graphic which are typically used in even more applications than a traditional bitmap graphic.

For example, you can take a small vector logo that fits on a business card and resize it to fit on a billboard. The graphic will not lose any image quality because it is mathematically resized. There is no need to create multiple sized bitmap graphics from scratch in order to fit your application. Vector art saves tons of time and energy because of its versatility.

Where can you get vector art?

Create your own: Create vector art using software capable of generating the graphics. A couple of popular programs include Adobe Illustrator and Inkscape. Adobe Illustrator is great software which comes with a price tag. Many professionals in the graphic design industry use Adobe software for all of their projects. Inkscape is a powerful open source vector editor which is a fancy way of saying free.

If you are just starting out, begin with the free software and upgrade to Illustrator at a later time. Adobe has also recently come out with a cloud service where you can use their software for a monthly fee. Being able to try the software out for a monthly fee is a great way to try it before you buy it. Or, the monthly subscription is a good option if you always want access to the latest and greatest.

Find it online: Vector images can be found online. Some sites will offer paid vector graphics and some offer them free. Usually vector art comes in a file extension of.svg online. Other vector image formats include.eps or.ai. This type of artwork is often classified and or grouped with clip art and borders.

In addition, a great resource for online vector graphics is http://www.artmaven.com/. Art Maven is a site dedicated to bringing everyone free original vector art which can be used for birthday projects, holiday crafts, and more.

JMW Turner: The Painter of Light

JMW Turner must be among the best known and best loved of all British artists. His paintings were hugely innovative, but their high quality and his prodigious talent were acknowledged even early on in the painter's lifetime, so that he was able to earn his living by painting from a young age. Thus he had the freedom to develop his artistic interests without the need to please any particular patron.

Turner came from a background of skilled trades-people: his father was a barber and wig-maker, and his mother's family made their living as butchers. Although the artist was not born to riches or to a particularly cultured family, it seems that his father must have appreciated the young boy's gift as a painter. It is recorded that Turner senior exhibited drawings by the young man, then only 12 or so years old, in the window of his shop in Covent Garden, for sale at a price of a few shillings apiece.

JMW Turner's training as a draftsman and painter initially focused on architectural drawings. He worked for various well-known architects, and when he was accepted into the Royal Academy, his apprentice works used similar subject matter. He thought about architecture as a career, but luckily for posterity he followed the advice he was given to concentrate on fine art.

Turner's earliest surviving works show a talented draftsman in the process of mastering perspective, with the sky featuring no more prominently than one might expect, as a back-drop to the main subject matter of the work. The first painting noted by contemporaries to embody the ethereal, elemental qualities which became synonymous with Turner's name was a watercolor entitled The Rising Squall, exhibited at the Academy in 1793. Sadly it is lost to us.

In 1796, Turner's first oil painting, Fishermen at Sea was shown, and one can see in that work many of the themes which he was to make his own. There is the sea, the exquisite rendering of light itself, and the intense romanticism of his portrayal of men dwarfed by the elements.

From then on, Turners painting dealt more and more with an attempt to portray the essence of light, through its manifestations as reflected on clouds and the sea. The effects he created had much in common with the later works of the impressionists, but he was not seeking as they did to create a faithful image of solid natural objects, but to approach the sublime directly. His paintings increasingly moved away from the portrayal of objects illuminated by the sun, to attempts to capture the sublimity of light itself. In spite of the increasing abstraction and lack of distinct solid forms that this quest led to, Turner remained a popular painter until he died, a rich man, in 1851.

There have been arguments about the way Turners legacy has been handled. He wanted to found a trust for the welfare of retired and impoverished artists, but the will was disputed and a large amount of the estate went to some cousins. He is honored in galleries in London, Margate and overseas, but his works have not been kept together as he wished.

In spite of that, the massive admiration and awe inspired by his paintings, persisting even centuries after his death, could hardly be greater.

Tips to Create Great 3D Architectural Renderings

3D architectural renderings have become an increasingly popular tool for architects to show clients what a completed project would look like, in a way that is more realistic than using scale models or artist's drawings. But in order for an architectural rendering to be successful, it has to be as photo-realistic as possible. Here are some tips on how to achieve an increased level of realism in your renderings.

1. Chamfer your edges. Even in man-made objects there is no such thing as perfectly sharp edges. By beveling your edges using a chamfer tool in the rendering software, you not only make your rendering look more realistic, you also bring out more detail by letting the edges capture highlights from your lighting source.

2. Don't use colors that are 100% black or white. In order to show that an object has volume, you need to have areas that are highlighted and shaded using mid-tones for contrast. If you have a virtual material that is totally black, your model will look flat because the differences between the shaded areas and the mid-tones will not be visible. Same with a totally white model, except that in this case, it is the differences between the mid-tones and light areas that are not visible.

3. Use blurred background or depth of field effects in your 3D architectural renderings since a certain amount of blurring is something that is associated with photographs from real life to indicate movement. You can apply depth effects during the actual rendering or they can be added in post-production using the lens blur and z-depth pass features.

4. Use specular maps. These maps add more realism to your renderings by telling the render engine which parts of it should have high glossiness (specularity) and which are more diffuse. But you can also use specular maps in rendering objects that are supposed to have a uniform finish, such as ceramics, by highlighting naturally-occurring irregularities such as dings and scratches.

5. Use area shadows. When you are doing exterior renderings, you should be aware of the time of day it is supposed to be so that you can reflect it in the shadows that are being cast. For example, if it is supposed to be morning, the shadows should be soft and not sharply defined. On the other hand, at mid-day, shadows are crisp. The type of lighting that you are using in the rendering is something you should also take into consideration; for example, sunlight creates softer shadows compared with artificial lighting, which can cast a shadow that is sharper.

6. Add some dirt and disorder to the image. In real life, even things that are supposed to be brand new are not pristine and will have some imperfections. So add these details to your renderings, such as tiny cracks. Or when you do a room, avoid making it look too neat by adding some disordered details, such as a few scattered objects.

7. Include asymmetry. In nature, things are never completely symmetric. So once you're finishing off your 3D architectural renderings, add some asymmetric variance in order to make them look more realistic.
