Things get more complicated when the artist has to transfer the drawing or use cutouts and such. As you can see, the process of mural art painting is not only about inspiration, but also about many challenges, and I hope you will appreciate it in a different way. In conclusion, I would like to invite you to read Michelangelo's despairing poem while painting the Sistine Chapel: "Here like a cat in a Lombardy sewer!Swelter and toil! With my neck puffed out like a pigeon, belly hanging like an empty sack, beard pointing at the ceiling, and my brain fallen backwards in my head! Breastbone bulging like a harpy's and my face, from drips and droplets, patterned like a marble pavement. Ribs are poking in my guts; the only way to counterweight my shoulders is to stick my butt out. Don't know where my feet are- they're just dancing by themselves! In front I've sagged and stretched; behind, my back is tauter than an archer's bow!"
I am a professional mural, fiber artist, and college professor. My mural portfolio consists of hand-painted public and residential murals in various styles, most of them located in South Florida. I am versed in both representational (realistic) and abstract art, and I am always looking forward to projects that challenge my thinking in generating original ideas. Most of my murals are painted in naturalistic style, using the trompe l'oeil effects (from French "to trick the eye". Another way, which will be the most preferred by a mural professional, is when you give the artist the freedom to come up with an idea for you. The artist will have a look at your home and will have some questions for you to determine your tastes. This way he/she could come up with unique and original designs, and I can assure you that he will work on this with lots of passion. First, this is because this is a new approach, something that the artist has not created before, and second, he can develop a design that fits his tastes and his artistic needs as well. Moreover, all these 'original' designs might become part of a mural's publication and /or artist's presentations, etc.

Because the hotel is located in the historic District and its exterior has been inspired by the 1930s Art Deco style, the City of Miami Historic Preservation Department has requested that the mural at the Tides had to depict a fusion of elements characteristic both to the South Beach Art Deco style and to the design of the hotel's lobby. Therefore, the mural is a blending of these elements. It consists of three panels (roughly 12x5 feet, 20x5, and 13x5) that add to the lobby's elegance through the richly decorated forms in pastel colors. The design consists of a vocabulary of abstracted tropical motifs for which South Beach is known for: the sunny beaches and the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, sea shells, the elegant palm fronds, and of course, its vibrantly colored architecture with geometric patterns. The mural was painted on canvas, which was adhered to the lobby's walls is an amalgam of undulating, colorful, and suggestive shapes that connect nicely with the hotel's lobby decor.
The mural represents a few Florida birds, trees, flowers, and plants. The decorative band and the coral base were added to increase the Trompe L'oeil effect, which gives depth to the dome. An important factor in getting a realistic, believable view is the use of the source of light. Everything is modeled keeping in mind the source of light. The cast shadows are important too. This is what makes it a Trompe L'oeil design. Another example of a mural with Florida scenery is the East Curved Wall (10x27 feet) located in the same building. The composition is very complex. One half shows a Florida gingerbread design balustrade and another half, a modern balustrade with Greek Ionic columns.
In the background one can see from left to right a waterfall with trees and plants, a peacock seating on the gingerbread balustrade, a still life on the balustrade in the very center, a sable palm, the city hall building in the far back, a golf course with Jackie Gleason and his Rolls Royce gold cart in the right panel, football helmets, and the American, Florida, and Lauderhill flags.
